Boosting Sustainable Business and Investment Ecosystem in Indonesia, Supernova Ecosystem and Koalisi Ekonomi Membumi Host “Matchmaking – Sosialisasi & Konsultasi Implementasi Panduan Investasi Lestari.”

Jakarta, 4 Juli 2022 – A series of sustainable investment institutions and stakeholders—such as the government, investors, donor agencies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) support organizations (enablers), and dozens of SMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises)—were brought together in the event ‘Matchmaking – Sosialisasi & Konsultasi Implementasi Panduan Investasi Lestari.’ on Friday, June 24, 2022. Held at Courtyard by Marriott Nusa Dua, Bali, this event aims to facilitate SMEs and sustainable investments to navigate the landscape of sustainable investment (impact investing) in Indonesia, the challenges towards sustainable investment in the field, and the implementation of the Sustainable Investment Guidelines for SMEs.

The series of activities ‘Matchmaking – Sosialisasi & Konsultasi Implementasi Panduan Investasi Lestari’ was initiated by Supernova Ecosystem, one of the members of the Koalisi Ekonomi Membumi (KEM). The implementation of activities and the curation process of SMEs and investors involved 14 KEM member organizations: ANGIN, ASYX, Econusa, Impact Hub Jakarta, Impala Network, Instellar, LTKL, Pandegha, Pratisara Bumi Foundation, SIAP, Stockholm Environment Institute, Supernova Ecosystem, Swadaya, TAL. Several Ministries and Institutions also participated in the curation process, such as the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (KemenkopUKM), the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), and SMESCO.

The event began with a communal lunch and proceeded with quick pitches that brought SME players together with investors and donors. Following the rapid pitches, participants were engaged in focused discussions to directly provide input and feedback on sustainable investment guidelines, both from the investor’s perspective and the business owner’s perspective. The series of activities concluded with a networking dinner.

The Matchmaking event was opened and closed by Mrs. Hanifah Makarim, Director of Financing Access at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/ Tourism and Creative Economy Agency; Mrs. Ima Rahmania, Young Policy Analyst at the Deputy for Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs; as well as Mr. Setyo Budi from the National Secretariat of SDGs at BAPPENAS or Sustainable Development Goals, National Development Planning Agency; and Mr. Emil Dardak (Vice Governor of East Java).

The series of events involved active participation from various institutions, encompassing 47 SMEs of diverse sizes, industries, supply chains, and enabling organizations (enablers) such as MY.CL, Twalen, Ladang Lima, and Oterra. There was also collaboration with 21 investor entities—with 25 attendees—including 9 venture capitals and 5 other investment bodies (such as ADM Capital, SWEEF, MDI, and Moonshot), as well as 3 international donor organizations (CLUA, USAID, and JCAF). The success of the Matchmaking event also included the engagement of 49 observers from government agencies and other ministries/institutions.

The connections forged during this Matchmaking event are expected to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and fostering sustainable investments in Indonesia. In the effort to realize this, a multi-stakeholder collaboration is essential, particularly in financing for social and environmental impacts. Therefore, as a collective movement, Koalisi Ekonomi Membumi (KEM) advocates for the growth of a sustainable investment ecosystem for both large-scale businesses and SMEs in Indonesia through a multi-stakeholder and cross-country collaborative approach.

Through this event, we anticipate the creation of a fluid and productive collaborative ecosystem. Sustainable SMEs can expand their networks, investors and/or funders can explore pipeline options, and KEM can receive feedback for the Panduan Investasi Lestari to be published.

Furthermore, KEM aims to launch the Panduan Investasi Lestari, sign the Declaration, and showcase sustainable businesses through the Galeri Investasi Lestari at the G20 & B20 Summit in November 2022.
